On July 6 this year, Typhoon Danas brought strong winds and heavy rain to southern Taiwan, following an unusual path that caused severe damage to many homes. To help affected residents rebuild as quickly as possible, the Executive Yuan brought together relevant central government agencies to establish the Yunlin-Chiayi-Tainan Forward Command Center for post-disaster recovery. The Irrigation Agency of the Ministry of Agriculture was tasked with assisting residents in Xiaying District, Tainan City, with home repairs. Besides simplifying the process to connect qualified contractors with general home restoration needs, the Agency also recommended reputable contractors who volunteered their professional services for free to help disadvantaged victims repair their homes. To see the reconstruction progress firsthand, Commander Chen Chin-De of the Forward Command Center, along with Deputy Commander Lee Yi-Der and Deputy Minister Huang Chao-chin of the Ministry of Agriculture, visited Xiaying District on the afternoon of July 14 to inspect repairs for disadvantaged households.
Recommending Quality Contractors to Assist Disadvantaged Households
After the Forward Command Center was established, Director General Tsai Sheng-fu of the Irrigation Agency promptly led a team to work with the Xiaying District Office in inspecting damaged homes. When they visited Mr. Yen’s house in Hongjia Village, Xiaying District, they found the roof completely blown off, rendering the home uninhabitable. Learning that Mr. Yen is a low-income resident unable to afford repairs at the moment and was temporarily living under a tarpaulin-covered roof, the Agency contacted Han Zhun Construction Co., Ltd. Upon hearing about Mr. Yen’s situation, the company immediately offered to rebuild a sturdy, weather-resistant roof for him free of charge, using their professional expertise.
Swift Action to Support the Disadvantaged
After learning about the situation on July 11, Han Zhun Construction promptly conducted on-site measurements the next day and began preparing high-quality materials, including premium heat-insulated roofing sheets. Construction started immediately that same day. Commander Chen Chin-De of the Forward Command Center praised the Irrigation Agency for its dedication and efforts in assisting home repairs in Xiaying District. On site, he also presented a certificate of appreciation to Han Zhun Construction, expressing gratitude for the company’s compassion and valuable contribution to helping disadvantaged residents.

The Irrigation Agency stated that although the storm was merciless, compassion remains strong among the people. Following the guidance of the Forward Command Center, the Agency will continue to prioritize improving living conditions for disadvantaged households and assist other affected residents in repairing their homes.
